RICKA Whitewater School

Whitewater Paddling

The RICKA Whitewater Group will be holding a Class II Whitewater Kayak School on August 16 and 17, 2008. The course will be taught by ACA certified whitewater instructor Mike Rock and will be free for qualified RICKA members.

In this course, participants will refine the techniques needed to paddle in class II whitewater. After a review of the basic strokes on flatwater, we will head to the river to work on eddy turns, peel-outs and ferries. We will also cover river reading and basic river safety.

To participate in this course you must be a current RICKA member. This is an intermediate class II whitewater course and is not for beginner paddlers - previous class II experience is required. The course is also open to experienced whitewater paddlers looking to refresh their skills.

Participants must provide their own equipment including a whitewater kayak, sprayskirt and helmet. Recreational kayaks are not allowed in this class. The club may be able to arrange for a limited number of participants to borrow the necessary equipment.
